ITEM DESCRIPTION
PICTURES DO NOT MAKE JUSTICE. Antique, large and important 3.3 inches brass refractor telescope for astronomical and terrestrial use with star finder, accessories, original oak tripod and wooden carrying box (box includes even original key and lock is working).
Telescope is mounted on a large carved wood tripod with integrated adjustable brass elements that allow the telescope to be raised and lowered.
The firm and solid tripod with double ring for the height adjustment column gives the telescope perfect stability.
It has two tubes (astronomical and terrestrial), three eyepieces (terrestrial eyepiece integrated on tube and two combined eyepieces for astronomical use) and one dark filter to see the sun.
It has a sophisticated system of three clutches: one to slide tube (this way can adjust gravity center to move barrel freely), other to tilt it (up -down) and other to rotate it (left - right). A very early modern brake technology considering its age, incorporated later for Carl Zeiss telescopes during 1920s.
Really impressive instrument made with superb quality.
Optics in excellent condition and fully functional. Superb vision and clean lens.
Amazing overall condition considering its age with slights signal of use. Tube with no evident dents. Telescope is unsigned, however it has been made with no doubt by C.J. Gaupp Co. between 1860 to 1914 (a
british company established in Hong Kong)

Tube diameter and objective lens is 3.3 inches.
Longest dimension when extended in terrestrial mode is 67 inches. Long of tube when not extended is 47.5 inches. Tallest dimension of telescope in horizontal position is 80 inches (extended tripod). Telescope in horizontal position is 63 inches when tripod is not extended. It includes lens covers (for telescope and finderscope).
